ABSTRACT

A paint mixer is defined as a pattern constructed for the production (mixing) of paint manually.  The method of fabrication of the paint mixer involved a preliminary computation of the dimensions of the standard mixer in relation to the dimension of the reacting vessel in which they will be used in marking out, cutting out to sizes, rolling, folding, welding, body-filling and painting.  The first step taken in the fabrication of this project work was the selection of material suitable for the construction.  The materials used in the construction were locally sourced and were selected to suit the fabrication.  The mild steel sheet was used instead of galvanized steel because of its malleability and low cost.  The dimensions of the mixer are as follows:
-Thickness of the mild steel sheet= 2mm.
-The actual diameter of cylinder = 1ft or 12 inches.
-Volume of the cylinder = 37.7 inches.
-The overlapping volume = 2 inches.
-Depth/Height of mixer = 18 inches.
To fabricate the mixer, the design of the mixer is divided into:-
(1)The cylinder (mixing vessel).
(2)The driving shaft and impeller.
(3)The drive.
The paint mixer assembling was done by installing the bearing in the bearing housing and installing the drive shaft in the bearing whose extreme has been mounted with an impeller.  The above assembling was then installed in the mixing cylinder with the help of bolts and nuts.  The drive was then installed on the extreme of the drive shaft with the help of keys. The cover was placed on top of the cylinder and fastened with anchorage.  The paint mixer was tested and confirmed to function effectively which can serve the purpose of a manual paint mixing.
